Mr. Becker was asked to paint an image to be given to a group of survivors from the World Trade Center bombing. He presented this painting to three hundred survivors who actually made it out of Building One that terrible day.
The request by those commissioning the painting for the survivors, asked that it symbolize the hope and inspiration that life goes on. It’s one of the more abstract, symbolic, images he has painted. The small, young, tree is surviving, flourishingand somehow even managing to stay in the light during a long, cold, dark, winter night. Symbolizing that life will find a way to persist. A message of inspiration, expressing that life goes on...even through the worst of times.
This painting was so well accepted by the survivors, that it inspired them to organize a self help center, within their new offices. It still hangs in that Manhattan office today.
